The UPMC Center for Skull Base Surgery is a world-class multidisciplinary group dedicated to advancing the treatment of sinonasal cancers and skull base tumors. As pioneers of the endoscopic endonasal approach to skull base tumors, UPMC physicians have treated thousands of patients with skull base tumors with this technique. The Skull Base Center is now a designated Pituitary Tumor Center of Excellence.
Active research areas of research include improving quality of life following endoscopic skull base surgery and improving survival in patients with sinonasal malignancies. Highlights of ongoing studies include proliferative and immunologic profiling of sinonasal mucosal melanoma and helping to lead a multi-site consortium prospectively evaluating survival outcomes and tissue banking of sinonasal malignancies. Moreover, numerous anatomic investigations are underway evaluating corridors to access skull base tumors and novel reconstructive techniques.
The UPMC Center for Skull Base Surgery hosts several hands-on training courses each year and regularly hosts domestic and international scholars to participate in research.
